Howard Robard Hughes Jr., better known as the "Mighty Sparrow," was born on December 24, 1905, in Houston, Texas. Born into wealth and privilege, Hughes's fascination with aviation began at a young age.

In 1928, Hughes made headlines with his record-breaking transcontinental flight from Los Angeles to New York City, which he completed in just 18 hours and 38 minutes. This feat earned him the title of "America's Greatest Aviator" and cemented his place in the annals of aviation history.

In 1938, Hughes embarked on his most ambitious aviation endeavor yet: a solo non-stop flight around the world. The world had already been circumnavigated by air, but no one had ever attempted it alone and without stopping.

On July 1, 1938, Hughes took off from Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York, with the world's hopes pinned on his shoulders. The Mighty Sparrow soared into the sky, carrying Hughes into the unknown.

Over the next three days and nights, Hughes faced relentless challenges. He battled treacherous weather conditions, including storms and icing, and experienced mechanical difficulties with his aircraft. He was plagued by fatigue, hunger, and loneliness.
